ACADEMIC NAVIGATORS 3450 Bentwood Drive Cumming, Georgia 30041 678-755-8726 ![]() A SCHOOL WHERE EVERY KID KNOWS THE ANSWER!
MIDDLE SCHOOL SHOULD BE A TIME OF GREAT JOY, GROWTH, WONDER, FRIENDS, AND HIGH SELF-ESTEEM. AT ACADEMIC NAVIGATORS, IT IS!! For many years, something magical has been happening! Academic Navigators has been opening its doors to students who were falling through the cracks of more traditional schools, and helping these students to finally achieve their academic potential. How have we done it? ...We forget the child's past! We give students a firm, educational foundation to build upon. With new success, comes confidence. We don't take a child's struggles away. Rather, we teach the child to overcome the struggles by finding new and effective ways to deal with them. We teach kids how to be resilient so that obstacles can no longer define the limits of their learning. With each success, students become increasingly willing to try new things, learn more than they ever thought they could, and ultimately reach their full potential. Our vehicle for teaching is academics, but the skills students gain span every area of their lives. We have witnessed the amazing transformation of our students when they realize that they indeed have unique, God-given talents, that when applied, will lead to achievement, and more importantly, happiness. Once a child gets a taste of success and positive feelings, they just want more. That is how we do it! WE ARE A NON-TRADITIONAL, MIDDLE SCHOOL. WHAT DOES THAT MEAN? We recognize that many kids march to the beat of their own drum. We see this as a strength that often needs to be fine tuned to work in a student's favor. Our non-traditional style gives us the latitude to deliver education in as many ways as necessary to get a child on board with true learning. For example, if we are teaching about the Civil War, we may start with students simulating a war scene out in the field. Then we may read and write about it. We might even sing about the Civil War using old ballads. We may have the students develop a drama in which they put themselves in the shoes of some of the major players in the war. We may head to Kennesaw Mountain to walk where a real battle took place, where soldiers on both ends gave their lives. Finally, we may give a test or project that will allow students to show us their mastery of the Civil War. We make it our job to bring curriculum to life so that real learning can occur. Being non-traditional simply means that we go beyond what methods traditionally work for the average student. We want students to be excited to learn, so we go the extra mile. Academic Navigators has built-in environmental features: horses, other farm animals, and a natural environment second to none, that help us lead the way in providing an educational environment that is green, experiential, and alive! How Do We Measure Our Success? Most schools measure their success primarily by test scores. Much of Academic Navigators' success is measured by how well our students do after they leave our program. We are proud of our past students as virtually every one of them has gone on to succeed in other schools, colleges, and life. Their achievement and happiness is the legacy of Academic Navigators as well as its future. Test scores are important as well. In our society, scores on national, standardized tests are often the key that unlocks the doors to the places our students want to go. As our students let themselves truly learn all they are capable of, it is a given that their test scores rise. We work hard to ensure that our students do well on tests as we want all of the doors in their future to open wide for them. ![]() ![]() Who Does Academic Navigators Serve? Academic Navigators is a private, non-traditional, middle school serving 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. The school is geared towards students who will benefit from a small, nurturing, educational program that provides skills that are critical for success in academics and the social arena. We specialize in the following: We aid gifted students in integrating their academic intellect with their developmental level. We work with students who have mild deficits in learning. ie. delays in reading, writing, math, etc. We have helped countless students with Dyslexia to independently manage their special challenges in order to accomplish their academic goals. We are well known for being a place of solace for students with school anxiety. We provide a very therapeutic, learning environment for students who are experiencing life trauma that is affecting their school performance. We primarily serve students with mild stressors that are inhibiting their level of success in academics. As well, we certainly welcome typical learners into Academic Navigators. After all, our belief is that all students can benefit from a high quality education in a nurturing environment. At Academic Navigators, there are no labels on students. Every learner is unique and thus, our staff customizes each student's education for individual success. Due to our desire to maintain a high standard of academic study, we are not able to accommodate students with significant behavioral difficulty. We will work on a situational basis with students who have mild struggles with attention and/or students who have exhibited poor motivation towards school. Academic Navigators encourages parents to meet with teachers often to discuss their child's progress. We do not have specific days or times for parent/teacher conferences as we do not want to limit meetings to certain days of the year. Rather, we are flexible in scheduling around school hours and parents' schedules. We believe that an open line of communication between parents and teachers is critical for ensuring a student's success in the program. *Academic Navigators is open to students and staff of any race, religion, and sexual orientation. Diversity is celebrated at Academic Navigators, and absolutely no discriminatory actions of any kind will be tolerated. Academic Navigators has a zero tolerance policy on any behaviors that constitute bullying.
